About the Opportunity
DCG is looking for a full-time Superintendent based in Langley, BC.
Reporting to the General Manager, you will play a pivotal role in managing the full lifecycle of construction projects while working closely with internal teams, and executive leadership to ensure successful outcomes.
In this position, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Key Duties:
- Oversees bridge construction projects from start-to-finish, ensuring that projects are on budget, on time, and on scope, quality
- Identify possible costing advantages or disadvantages to proposed job
- Executes project setup including resourcing, scheduling, and budgeting
- Schedules and runs project start-up and site setup meetings to communicate schedules, create mutual goals, and establish guidelines and communication
- Coordinates project stakeholders (staff, trades, consultants, inspectors, etc.)
- Schedules and arranges sub-contractors and suppliers
- Routinely visits project sites, looking for potential non-conformance and/or deficiencies, maintaining contact with staff, and ensuring that procedures are being followed
- Addresses issues accordingly (i.e., site problems/delays, challenges with trades, failed inspections, safety incidents, etc.)
- Provides job updates, progress, or any discrepancies to the GM
- Ensures sites are meeting goals, schedules and productions laid out by estimate
- Obtains and manages all QC related aspects of the job and submitting as required prior to key stages and hold points in project; (i.e., concrete testing)
- Communicates new and extra work to Project Management
- Conducts monthly reviews with PM for job cost and billing
Safety Duties:
- Upholds the highest standards of the company’s Occupational Health and Safety Program
- Ensures NOP, BC One Calls, 30M33, TMPs, etc. are in place as required, and that the information is communicated to the Foreman
- Enforces safety rules and protocols
- Participates in hazard assessments
- Ensures hazards are identified and risk assessments are conducted on site as required
- Ensures the appropriate safe job procedures are developed and reviewed
- Ensures Foreman are properly equipped to follow through with the safe job procedures
- Reviews Site Inspection Reports
- Conducts/ participates in Incident Investigations
- Monitors subcontractors’ safety
Human Resource Duties:
- Determines what positions require hiring
- Interviews and hires employees
- Conducts employee reviews/ evaluations
- Informs HR and the GM of trends and uncharacteristic behaviour from employees
- Implements the Disciplinary Action Process
- Completes the required paperwork for layoffs and firings, and submit it to payroll
Please note: This position may include some out-of-town work
About You
To qualify, you will need 2+ years of Construction Superintendent experience. A valid driver’s license is required.
Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:
- Proven knowledge of construction project lifecycles and scheduling
- Experience managing subcontractors, suppliers, and stakeholder communications
- Familiarity with safety and risk management processes
- Ability to mentor junior staff and support professional development
- Ability to self-motivate and work independently
- Excellent planning and organization skills
- Strong communication and leadership skills
